This process can only be carried out with a valid Spanish DNI or TIE.

Below we provide you with the steps to obtain the idCAT Certificate online.

1. Access https://ciutada.idcat.aoc.cat/ca/solicitar

Choose the option of obtaining it through video identification if you have a Spanish ID card or TIE.

2. Accept the terms of service

Once the process has begun, you will need to accept the conditions of the video identification and the digital certificate that will be obtained.

3. Fill out the form with your personal details.

The following must be reported:

  • Name and surnames.

  • Email.

  • Your mobile phone number.

  • Personal code: create a code that you will later need to download the certificate.

4. Verify your identity

Once the data has been entered, an SMS code will be sent to the indicated phone number, which you will need to provide to continue the process.

5. Start with video identification

1. You will receive an email with a link (if you don't receive it, check your spam folder). You can also do this by scanning the QR code that appears on the screen.
2. Access the link from your mobile phone, tablet or computer* and begin the video identification process.
3. Allow access to the camera . The system will make you take different photos of your document, your face...
4. Follow the wizard steps to complete the video identification.

*Compatibility

Supported browsers in a general way for the video identification process are Google Chrome, Edge and Safari.

The video identification process is not compatible with iPhone+Chrome browser. It can be performed with Safari or Edge.

The latest versions of Firefox block camera permissions and do not allow you to end it.

6. Wait for identity verification by an operator

Once the process is complete, an operator will confirm the verification of your identity via email within 48 hours (Monday to Friday, except holidays).

7. Accept the request for the idCAT Certificate

You will need to click “Accept the idCAT application” in the email you receive. You will have 30 days to accept it. Once you do, you will receive a new email to download the certificate.

If you already had a valid idCAT Certificate, when you accept it will be revoked.

8. Download and install the idCAT Certificate

To finish the process and have your idCAT Certificate up and running, follow the steps indicated in How to download and install the idCAT Certificate.
